Testimonial, 6-13-18

“The absolute best! We took our family with 5 boys and had the BEST time. Orlando and Britt are so kind and super fun!”

Sumer Linder and family did the New Wave No Wave Float trip on 6-13-18. Guides Britt Runyon and Orlando Torres keep putting smiles on people’s faces!

Cholla cactus and funyaks on the river

The Rio Grande Recreation Area (formerly known as Orilla Verde) is part of the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, and is where we do our New Wave No Wave Float trip. And, yes, those cholla cactus are blooming right now.

You might see an otter. This photo was taken in the Rec Area.

Bighorn sheep ram

Or a bighorn sheep. Also taken in the Rec Area. Or a coyote.

You can ask to use a funyak, at no extra charge.

The only thing you can’t do is go skiing!

Guide Testimonial Britt Runyon, 7/29/17

“On Wednesday Susan and I took the most wonderful raft trip down the Rio Grande south of Taos. Our guide, for the second time, was our friend Britt Runyon, with New Wave Rafting. Britt has such a great love for this area, along with deep knowledge of the plants, animals and the river itself (and is such a great guy), that the trip was a total joy! We highly recommend him and the river itself.”

Britt Runyon

Britt is our Operations Manager. Every once in a while we try to figure out how long he has been with us – it’s been SO long! He started in 1985 or earlier!!

And he is our video and  photography producer. You’ll see his work on the website.

Past the drop, with a big smile on her face!

Here, he photographed Kathy Miller, NWRCo. Pres., running Powerline Falls in the Taos Box this season.

Bighorn sheep and channel fill

and Bighorn sheep in the Taos Box, also this season.

Come rafting with us, and request Britt. He represents our vision of providing the most valuable river experience possible. And … help us save the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument (which includes the Taos Box) from the clutches of the current administration, which wants to downsize or eliminate National Monuments completely. Drop a line to:  @SecretaryZinke.

One of the Oldest Guides on the River

Britt Runyon (aka Britt Huggins) has been with New Wave since the end of the last ice age. He attended our Guide Training Program in 1984, and never looked back. As he likes to say, he has the best job in the world. He has been our Operations Manager for quite a while as well. And, he’s the one that contributes most of the photos you see here on our website/blog. Without Britt, this whole show would likely grind to a halt. So, we’re very happy that he is still with us, and look forward to another few decades (at least ) with Britt. Here’s a couple of mug shots.

Powerline Falls Rapid, on the Taos Box

Powerline Falls rapid, on the Taos Box stretch of the Rio Grande river, in northern New Mexico, is the most exciting rapid that is commercially run in the State of New Mexico. It is named for the rim-to-rim span of power line that is seen overhead. The rapid is formed by a collection of very large boulders that have fallen into the riverbed. The rapid tumbles steeply over and between these boulders (see photo), creating the steepest drop on this Class 4+ stretch. The Taos Box stretch is the whitewater centerpiece of the recently designated Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. The river level (volume) in the video was 700-900 cfs.
New Wave Rafting Co. is your host for experiencing this exhilarating whitewater. Serving all of northern New Mexico and headquartered on the Rio Grande river between Santa Fe and Taos, we offer family-friendly trips from the mildest to the wildest, in spectacular settings. The Taos Box river trip traverses 16 miles of wilderness gorge, encountering demanding rapids guaranteed to get you wet. This is our most exciting whitewater river trip and is NOT for the timid.See you on the Rio!
