Rio Chama 1-Day River Rafting Trip

Enjoy Multi-Colored Sandstone Cliffs & Cottonwood Groves

Trip Meets At:

Bode’s General Store, in Abiquiu, at 9 AM (See Map)

A very scenic full-day trip through the canyon of the lower Rio Chama, from the Christ of the Desert Monastery to the Big Eddy take-out, with Class 2 to 3- (easy to moderate) whitewater. This is the area of New Mexico made famous in the paintings of Georgia O’Keefe, characterized by multi-colored sandstone cliffs and cottonwood groves along the river. Minimum of 4 required. Funyaks are usually present on this trip. Just ask!

We Provide:

A Buffet-style lunch, life jacket, rain gear, helmet and paddle.

You Provide:

Appropriate footwear for yourself (running shoes or sport sandals with extra strap or water shoes or dive booties), a change of clothes and drinking water.

Note: The Chama is a dam-release river, with great variability in the amount of water being released from day to day. Thus, the duration of the trip varies accordingly.
